Douthat State Park is considered to be one of the most beautiful parks in Virginia.

The mountain views are breathtaking and the entire 4493 acres of this park are on the National Register of Historic Places.

This park has been welcoming outdoor enthusiasts for 75 years. It has served as a template for other parks throughout the entire country.

While the mountain views would be enough to draw many people to this park, there are plenty of activities to enjoy as well.

Douthat State Park is home to 43 miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Mountain biking is also a popular activity.

Those who enjoy fishing will be thrilled to find both stream fishing and lake fishing. The 50-acre lake is kept well stocked with trout. Boat rentals and swimming are also available.

The water activities make this park a great choice for someone who wants to enjoy a wide variety of outdoor fun.

Those wishing to stay at the park overnight will find lots of options. Douthat State Park has 32 cabins and 3 lodges.

The overnight facilities can house families of all sizes. Pets are welcome in the park overnight, but an additional pet fee will be assessed.

Camping sites are also available. If you choose to camp in Douthat State Park, you will be able to enjoy the amazing views as well as a host of amenities such as a camp store and snack bar.

Several educational programs and special events are held here each year. Nature, history and interpretive programs are offered for all ages.

Some of the special events held at Douthat State Park include Apple Day in October, the Douthat Lake Run Car Show in May and the Saturday Evening Showcase, which takes place each week throughout the summer. The showcase may include live music, special speakers or other fun offerings.

While there are plenty of cabins available, it is important to make a reservation as soon as possible.

Because of the beauty and varied activities offered here, Douthat State Park is one of the most popular parks in the state.

Douthat State Park is located off of Interstate 64 at exit 27 which is near the town of Clifton Forge.
Pets are allowed in the park. They must be on a leash at all times. If staying overnight, a per night pet fee will be assessed.
