In 1775, Daniel Boone followed a buffalo trail and created a route that would become known as Wilderness Road.

Every August, some of the world’s finest fiddlers and musicians head to Galax, Virginia, to show off their skills and participate in the annual Old Fiddler’s Convention.
This five-day event is the oldest and largest fiddler’s convention in the world, providing more than 75 years of competition and celebration of music. In 2021 it takes place Aug. 9 to 14. (more…)
The Carroll County Fair is held yearly in late August on fairgrounds located at the Southwest Virginia Farmer’s Market in Hillsville.
The fair has a daily gate entrance fee that includes for all the events.
Goals of the fair:
– To be both fun and educational for people of all ages.
– To give our community an economical place to enjoy themselves while learning AgDayabout the importance of Agriculture.
– To become a community event that everyone takes pride in.
– To give individuals a chance to reminisce about the way things used to be and at the same time show how agriculture and the area has progressed.
– To have folks come away from the Fair with a better understanding of the area’s agriculture diversity and agriculture’s importance to the area’s economy.
– To have a wide variety of fun events for children of all ages such as the carnival rides, storytelling, beauty pageant, and 4-H family fun games, and more.
Crabtree Falls in Nelson County is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Virginia — certainly one of the top three along with Cascade Falls in Pembroke and White Oak Canyon Falls in Syria.
The rank for beauty may be debatable, but Crabtree is ranked No. 1 east of the Mississippi River for tallest vertical-drop, cascading waterfall in the United States. (more…)
