Shenandoah Valley Events

The Shenandoah Valley is known for its natural beauty. Much of that beauty is displayed along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive.

It is also an area that it features history, heritage and culture. Visitors to the Shenandoah Valley will be pleased to know that it offers no shortage of events either.

Whether they prefer festivals or fairs or if they like music, food, drink or other activities, there is something for everyone to enjoy in the region. Regardless of the season, there are definitely events being held in the Shenandoah Valley.

The list of events for the region seems to go on and on. However, some top events may spark the interest of visitors to the region. Some of these events have taken place annually for decades while others are relative newcomers to the scene.

Glass blowing
The Virginia Hot Glass Festival - Sunspots Studios in Staunton hosts this annual April event. Numerous glass artists from all across the region demonstrate techniques that range from traditional glass blowing to flame working and bead making. The exhibits display some of the finest blown glass from the region, including marbles, beads, glassware, jewelry and more.

New Market Day Parade & Ceremony - This event is held every May 15 when the Virginia Military Institute honors its cadets who fought at and died during the Battle of New Market. Wreaths are placed on the graves of cadets who were buried on the school's grounds. Cadets march in a full dress parade.

Virginia Wine & Craft Festival - Who says you can't combine the best of both worlds? Two of Virginia's favorite things, wine and crafts, are united for this annual May event in downtown Front Royal. Local crafters and artisans display their wares while area wine is available for tasting and purchase.

Cork & Blues Fest Wine and Music Festival - Enjoy wine and great food during the annual May event. Crowds gather at Glen Maury Park at Buena Vista for a relaxing atmosphere and a combination of wine tastings that showcase six vineyards from across the state. Food vendors offer local specials, such as BBQ pork, ribs and chicken, plus hamburgers and hotdogs.

Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival - Eastern Mennonite University hosts the week-long summer music festival that devotes itself to the appreciation of the music of the classical composer. Multiple concerts and open rehearsals provide event-goers with great music and enjoyment throughout the week.

Virginia Southern Gospel Jubilee - Three July evenings filled with the sounds of professional gospel musicians resonate through Glen Maury Park. The event is sponsored by Pentecostal Outreach Church in Buena Vista and features some of the finest names in gospel music from across America.

Daylily and Wine Festival - The beautiful hills of Viette Farm and Nursery offer rows and rows of various daylilies during July. This particular weekend hosts this large and loved annual event, using those flowers as the magnificent backdrop. It features food, Virginia wines and beers, and entertainment.

XtremeFest of the Blue Ridge - Fun for everyone is found at this June event at Constitution Park focusing on adventure sports. With a mobile climbing wall, kayaking on South River, a BMX stunt show, and other activities, event goers stay busy. There is also plenty of great food and fun for all ages on site.

Rockbridge Pie Festival - Every September, the gathering is held at Brewbaker Field to celebrate homemade pie. With a pie contest, children's activities and the Mincemeat Mile swim, there is something for everyone.

Apple Day at the Stonewall Jackson House - A fun family event held each October at the historic home of the Civil War hero. Free apple cider is hand-cranked on site. There is music, crafts, games, and homemade ginger snaps to add to the day.

Regardless of your interests, there is definitely something for everyone in the Shenandoah Valley region.
