The Isle of Wight County Fair takes place for five days every year in mid September. This year’s event runs from Sept. 17 to 20.

Fairgoers experience entertainment of many kinds. The fair has a tractor pull, a seafood festival, agricultural competitions, performances, and sanctioned lawn mower races.

In 1994, the Isle of Wight County Fair was put on again after a 53-year gap. The fair was resurrected by a committee determined to recreate the “old fashioned fair experience”.

The fair is open to both residents of the Isle of Wight and visitors. In January 2011, the Isle of Wight County Fair was recognized as one of the fastest growing fairs in Virginia.

Location

The Isle of Wight is located in the Hampton Roads Metropolitan Area. The Isle of Wight is in the eastern region of the state.

From Washington, D.C., the Isle of Wight is a three-hour drive. The Isle of Wight is an hour and a half away from Richmond.

Hours and Admission

The hours of the fair vary from day to day. On Wednesday, the Seafood Fest takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. Admission is $25 per person, and tickets should be purchased in advance.

On Thursday, the fair is open from 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday is Carload night. Vehicles pay a $40 flat fee, and everyone in the car receives unlimited ride wristbands.

On Friday, the fair is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. On Saturday, it is open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday hours are 11 a.m.- 6 p.m.

Admission is $8 for adults and children 6 and up. Children under the age of 6 are admitted at no cost.

Things to Do

In 2013, the fair’s main stage featured performers Chris Cagle, Joe Nichols, and The Farm. Separate tickets may be required to attend concerts, but concerts are included in the admission price.

The family stage features a variety of family friendly activities, including a hot dog eating contest, Windsor Gymnastics, Senior Cornhole Tournament and Isle of Wight’s Got Talent.

Featured entertainment includes the Zerbini Family Circus and the King BMX Stunt Show.

Among the competitions are the 4-H contests, Bull Riding, and an Antique Tractor Pull.

A Corn Hole Tournament is part of the festivities.

The fair provides entertainment and activities for people and families of all ages.
