Despite its smaller population, Yorktown is big with historical attractions in Virginia because it is the location of the Yorktown Battlefield. The battle ended the Revolutionary War in favor of the American rebels.

Another well-known attraction is Yorktown Beach, a two-acre beach at the mouth of the York River by Chesapeake Bay. It offers boating, swimming, and fishing.

Demographics
York is 75 percent white, 14 percent black and 11 percent other, according to the Census Bureau. The average household has 2.6 residents. More than 95 percent of the residents are high school graduates and more than 47 percent have a college bachelor’s degree or higher.
