Loudoun County Community Guide

Loudoun County is located in the northern part of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The county, with an estimated population of 333,253 as of 2012, is a part of the Washington Metropolis Area.

Loudoun County is one of the fastest growing counties in the country, having seen an 84% increase in population since the 2000 census, which estimated a population of 169,599.

The county seat is Leesburg.

History

The area that is known as Loudoun County today was part of the 5 million acre plot of land granted to noblemen by King Charles II in 1649.

Loudoun County was named for John Campbell, the fourth earl of Loudoun and the titular Governor of Virginia from 1756-1759.

Loudoun County served as a temporary safe haven for President James Madison during the war of 1812. The county also housed the Constitution and other important state papers when Washington D.C. was burned.

The Land

Today, Loudoun is known for its beautiful scenery, thriving business opportunity, and its dedication to providing a high quality of life for its residents.

The county’s proximity to the nation’s capital has made it a popular place to live. The population is rapidly growing and expanding.

The county has seven towns and many villages. Quieter than the close by Washington D.C., Loudoun County offers a country escape to city dwellers.

Loudoun County is dedicated to the arts. The county has a variety of art museums and photo galleries. With the summertime comes an opportunity to attend multiple outdoor concerts.
