Claytor Lake State Park

Claytor Lake State Park is a park that has it all. The park sits alongside the 4500-acre Claytor Lake.

When it comes to outdoor activities, this state park offers dozens of choices. Visitors can enjoy swimming, boating, fishing and many other water related activities.

The park also has hiking trails, nature and history programs, a visitor center and a variety of overnight facilities.

As is the case in most Virginia state parks, dogs are welcome but they must be kept on a leash. Dogs kept in the park overnight incur an additional fee.

The wildlife in the park is quite diverse. Visitors may see deer, snapping turtles and a several bird species. Guided walks will give you the best chance of spotting some of the park’s wildlife.

All of the features listed above are wonderful, but what makes Claytor lake State Park stand out is Water’s Edge, the park’s onsite marina and meeting facility. Water’s Edge is a first-rate marina with every amenity that boaters expect.

It is also a beautiful meeting facility with lovely views. Some possible uses include seminars, family reunions and weddings. The Water’s Edge can accommodate up to 125 people, with banquet seating for up to 72.
Special events held at the park include the Celebration of Summer and Claytor Lake Fourth of July.

Throughout the year the park offers activities such as guided nature walks, wildlife hikes and the opportunity to hear special speakers address a variety of interesting topics such as wildlife, astronomy, ecology and many others.
