For art, crafts, music, dramatic performances and more, make the journey to the Annual Heart of Virginia Festival in Farmville.

There will be a great variety of music, including rock, soul, oldies, jazz and bluegrass performed by some of the most talented performers in the area. Unique one-of-a-kind crafts will be displayed and sold while skilled craftsmen and artisans demonstrate their talents. Other activities include an antique car show, talent shows, a 10k run and even magic shows.

The 10k Run/5k Fun Run kicks off at Hampden-Sydney College at 8:30 a.m. Other activities and the rest of the festival are set for downtown and will get started at 9 a.m. and continue until 3:30 p.m. A schedule of events is available online prior to the event on the website,

Proclaiming itself as "The Best Small-Town Festival in the World," the event has plenty of fun for all ages, from toddlers to senior citizens. Drawing crowds of thousands to the area for the last 35 years, this popular event includes several of the festival standards plus some unique fun that can't be found elsewhere.

After a day of fun in downtown Farmville, the festivities move to Farmville Airport where back to back entertainment and delicious foods remain abundant until nightfall.

When the area falls dark, a spectacular fireworks display, including sizzlers, twirlers, stars, whistlers and every color imaginable will light up the sky. Activities at the airport get under way at about 6 p.m. and continue until about 10:30 p.m.

Food options range from chicken to barbecue to international delicacies and homemade sweets. There is something for every taste. The festival celebrates the arts, crafts, culture, music and more in the heartland of the state. Vendors have the best crafts and artwork in the area on display during the outdoor art exhibit.

Held annually the first Saturday in May, the popular festival lasts all day. It is split into multiple divisions, including an outdoor art show, craft show, food festival, children's festival and more. Whether visitors want to participate or just come enjoy the fun, there is plenty to do and see throughout the event.

The Town of Farmville is located in Virginia's Heartland in Prince Edward and Cumberland counties. With a population of about 8,200 people, it offers small town charm to its visitors.

This annual event is known to draw crowds of as many as 10,000 people and has free admission. The festival grows every year, offering a great selection of food, fun and entertainment for everyone.
