Crozet Arts Festival

Art and craft lovers have the chance to shop, eat, drink, and enjoy the award-winning Crozet Arts Festival not just once but twice each year.

The annual regional spring and fall festivals bring in more than 125 artists and craftspeople from across the nation. What sets this show apart from its peers is this: it doesn’t have any peers in the area. The unparalleled quality of craftsmanship and artistry available at the Crozet Arts Festival cannot be found easily around the state.

In addition to art (oils, photography, and mixed media pieces among others), a huge array of pottery, textiles, leather, glass, wood, and other made-by-hand, one-of-a-kind pieces are on display for purchase.

All artwork is kept under covered tents in the event of rain (the show goes on rain or shine).

The Charlottesville area event, which has been taking place for more than 30 years, began with a small group of artists and has grown along with the creative, semi-rural community of Crozet.

Since its inception, the festival has evolved to include samplings from local farm-to-table restaurants along with tastings from the famous Virginia wineries that populate the greater Albemarle area and the 151 trail.

Recently, festival promoters launched a new addition to the festival, known as Crozet Art Dollars, or “CADS.” The prepaid vouchers are redeemed when visitors purchase artwork at the festival and to attract more artists.

Crozet celebrates Virginia’s finest foods by offering festival goers delicacies like she-crab soup, crab cakes, and moonshine-style barbecue. Gluten-free and vegan vendors will be on site, too.

The live music soundtrack for the weekend, provided by local and regional groups, reflects the varying styles of music in the Charlottesville area, inviting ears to listen to anything from old-time gospel tunes to mountain strings, string ensembles and jazz combos.

This is a family-friendly event that features a children’s play area, guided painting lessons, and proceeds from the admission fee funds the maintenance and growth of the Claudius Crozet Park.

CADS cost $25 and must be purchased in advance; see website for details.

Guided painting classes cost $45 per adult and $30 per child. This fee includes one free entrance to festival per class purchase and all necessary materials. Prior registration is encouraged.
